Welcome to the Ex-offender rapid re-employment and job retention path of CareerWired.com and CDROM version 4.0 -- a cooperative effort for Allegheny County ex-offenders between Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County Jail, and FREEdLANCE Group/CareerWired.com. This site is designed to help ex-offenders and those that support them to plan a productive new future and enhanced your quality of life by:

    • helping do structured career planning in a rich multimedia environment and linking to employers and industries who are open to hiring qualified applicants based on skills (not judging on their past mistakes only)
    • assisting in identifying and addressing barriers such as basic life needs (family, financial and food) housing, wellness (such as drug and alcohol issues) and especially work readiness. Here we identify these issues, then also offer solutions such as audio interviews with programs that address barriers, online lessons, etc.
    • linking to specific employment and training resources, including skill training courses and career development programs that can further help customers know themselves, know the labor market, and make the match to careers through good decision making tools and strategies
    • Introducing users of the WWW site or CDROM to basic IT skills and the Internet - as CareerWired’s ABOUTFACE site uses cutting edge world-wide-web browsers and software’s to run and navigate. Users also learn the basics of a keyboard on a personal computer, and as most all jobs now use some technologies, this practice will help employability for the long-term.
    • We suggest beginning with the "how to use this site" and "pre-assessment" listed at the top of the left-hand tool bar, as these will direct you to parts of the WWW site or CDROM that will be most beneficial. Then, after you complete your personal needs assessment, you can share that with your career facilitator or spouse, friend, etc. and continue to use ABOUT FACE to address your needs, one at a time.

The other site links on the left will take you to an ongoing pool of resources being developed, including agency interviews on their free services and what you need to do to access them, e-Learning workshops on the subjects noted, and related links, tools, and assessments you can use to find, get, and keep a rewarding career path job (even after a mishap in life).

New to the CareerWired.com site and need a 3 month password to enter and plan your new future? There are three options here you can choose from:

      1. send a check or money order for $49.95 for a password, or $79.95 for a CDROM (which will allow you access to About Face without the need for an internet connection) to CareerWired.com, 207 Windy Hill Drive, Moon Township, PA 15108 and include your return address IF different than the address on the check. Once the check is processed, you will then get in the mail a CareerWired.com workbook and password and be ready for use for 3 months on.
      2. use the secure PayPal ONLINE credit card option to purchase a password or CDROM (which will allow you access to About Face without the need for an internet connection), or
      3. ask staff at a program you're working with if they are a CareerWired.com user, and they may be and be able to supply you a password. Non-profit agencies get bulk discounts on passwords.

The site has been supported by resources of Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh and FREEdLANCE Group’s partners, as well as additional in-kind support from Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center, Career & Workforce Development Center East, PA Board of Probation and Parole, MonValley Initiative, and many others who have supplied content or supported content development.

To listen to the audio interviews, you must have the latest version of RealPlayer. This program is free and can be downloaded from www.real.com. Once you have downloaded AND installed the program, just click on any interview to listen.
