$1 Energy Fund, Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh, The Institute of Economic Transformation at Duquesne University, The Department of Welfare (DPW), FreedLance Group, industry employers and workforce development experts have teamed together to launch a workforce development initiative for Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Customer Service Supply Chain Program (CSSC) is a training program to assist low-income individuals with obtaining full-time (or part time to full time) career path employment, with benefits, in a variety of growth industries needing customer service professionals.

This unique business model established CSSC to help move low-income clients into high demand, high quality jobs in the finance, insurance, and call center industries. The students enrolled into the training program must receive TANF benefits (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) through the Department of Welfare (DPW). The program provides a strong supportive system, which eliminates many of the barriers to employment.

The CSSC Program uses best-practice resource development featuring:

  • Open entry /exit model
  • Sophisticated recruitment and assessment techniques
  • Personal job-fit for the workplace
  • Curriculum designed to teach customer service, computer, interview, job search and general workplace skills as well as enhance the client's existing skills
  • Intensive case management that includes a 6-month retention follow up
  • Certified skills standards as Professionals in Customer Service by the National Retail Federation Foundation (NRFF)

Successful candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • 8th grade TABE reading level
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Criminal Background Clearances
  • Desire to Work and enter a Career Path in the Customer Service Industry

The CSSC Program's Referral, Enrollment and Program Flow include:

  • 1. Centralized Assessments
  • 2. Referral from DPW for a 3-day CSSC Assessment & Intake Process
  • 3. Phase 1 - 120 Training Hours (open entry/exit model- Monday starts)
  • 4. Phase 2 - 60 Hours Externship (open-ended time frame based on participants work history and progress)
  • 5. Phase 3 - 30-day job search; Work experience as required
  • 6. Post employment and follow-up support services
